Music education programs for children

The music education programmes, founded and run by the Voz Nua Cultural Association and the Clube dos Galitos, focus on active, experienced-based teaching and learning, based on the Kodály Concept of Music Education and the Montessori Method.

For the 2025/2026 academic year, we are offering two music education programmes.

The first (Sons da Cantibum) is for children aged from 3 to 6 years of age, and is led by a trained Montessori teacher and musician. The classes are also inspired by educator and ethnomusicologist Patricia Shehan Campbell.

The second project is a choir for older children (6 - 12 years), based on Kodály’s educational philosophy. The choir was founded in November 2024, and has performed at the Civilria Christmas Club, and during Voz Nua’s Christmas Concert. The choir also participated in a harmony-signing masterclass with conductor, composer and researcher Nicholas Bannan in April 2025.

Sons da Cantibum

When: Wednesdays, 4pm - 4.45pm OR 4.45pm - 5.30pm.   

Where: Sede dos Galitos (1º piso), Praça Joaquim Melo Freitas nº3. 3800-158. 

Start date: October 8th, 2025  

Registration and payment: €25 per month. All participants must become members of the Clube dos Galitos, which involves an additional annual subscription of €12. We are offering a free taster session on October 8th, but you must reserve a place. 

Childrens Choir

When? Wednesdays, from 5.45pm to 6.30pm.

Where? Sede dos Galitos (1º piso), Praça Joaquim Melo Freitas nº3. 3800-158

Start date: October 8th, 2025

Registration and Fees: €25 per month. All participants must become members of the Clube dos Galitos, which involves an additional annual subscription of €12. All children are welcome to come and try the first rehearsal to see if they like it, but you must book a place in advance.
